Brazil will have a record of representatives at the 10th edition of the Rio Open presented by Claro, starting this Monday, at Jockey Club Brasileiro.

Felipe Meligeni Alves won his match against Juan Manuel Cerundolo at the second round of Qualifying this Sunday by 6/3 and 7/6 (6) and secured himself a spot at the main draw of the carioca event for the third time in his career.

With him, Brazil will now have five players at the main draw of the Rio Open for the first time ever. He joins Thiago Monteiro, João Fonseca, Thiago Seyboth Wild and Gustavo Heide.

Last year, Meligeni lost at the first round of Qualifying to Frenchman Hugo Gaston.

“It was very emotional for me to win here in front of my family and friends. I knew the match was going to be tough, but I managed to stay strong mentally. Now I need to keep my feet on the ground and prepare myself the best way I can”, said Meligeni, 25.

Also making it to the main draw of the Rio Open this Sunday were Argentinians Francisco Comesana and Mariano Navone.

Comesana defeated Italian Andrea Pellegrino by 6/3 and 6/2. Navone overcame his countryman Genaro Alberto Olivieri by 6/1 and 7/6 (3).

And the last remaining spot at the main draw ended up with Frenchman Corentin Moutet, who beat Brazilian Matheus Pucinelli de Almeida by 6/4 and 6/3.

DOUBLES

Brazilian duo João Fonseca and Marcelo Zormann defeated Yannick Hanfmann (GER) and Juan Pablo Varillas (PER) to claim the only remaining spot at the Doubles' Draw of this edition of the Rio Open. They won by 3/6, 6/4 and 10/1 this Sunday at Jockey Club Brasileiro.
