It was six hours on the court this Sunday, including the semi-final and the final, but Tomas Martin Etcheverry doesn’t have anything to complain about. The Argentinian was crowned champion of the Rio Open 2026, presented by Claro.

It is his first ATP title and the fourth for an Argentinian in the biggest tournament in South America.

Etcheverry, the number 8 seed, lost the first set, but defeated Chilean Alejandro Tabilo in the final (3/6, 7/6(3), 6/4) on the Guga Kuerten Court in 3 hours and 4 minutes.

To celebrate, he lay down on the clay and wrote on the camera lens: "Champion at last".

“I don’t know how I did it, I drew strength from where I didn’t have any. I felt a lot of pressure to win a title after losing three finals. So, I’m very happy”, celebrated the 26-years-old champion, who received the trophy from his compatriot Diego Schwartzman, champion of the Rio Open in 2018.
