Joao Fonseca has already made a habit of electrifying his home crowd, and with one fearless display of defence, he has earned February’s Hot Shot of the Month presented by Yokohama award.

During an all-Brazilian clash with Thiago Monteiro at the Rio Open presented by Claro, Fonseca looked down and out in a bruising rally. Yet the 19-year-old produced a series of dogged defensive shots to stay alive before unloading a blistering winner that brought the Rio crowd on its feet.

The spectacular turnaround captured the fighting spirit that has quickly made Fonseca, the No. 35 player in the PIF ATP Rankings, a fan favourite on Tour, with the home supporters roaring their approval after the teenager turned defence into attack in stunning fashion.
