The Rio Open presented by Claro has confirmed another top 20 player for its 13th edition: the return of Norwegian Casper Ruud, currently world No. 17 and recognized as one of the best clay-court players on the circuit. South America's biggest tennis tournament will take place from February 13 to 21 at the Jockey Club Brasileiro. Ticket presale begins on October 6, with general sales starting on October 13.
“I am very excited to return to the Rio Open. The tournament was very important at the beginning of my career, and now I return knowing that we will be in a new, larger stadium with even more energy from the Brazilian crowd,” said Ruud.
The Norwegian is the second big name confirmed for the 13th edition of the Rio Open, which will also feature Italian Flavio Cobolli, ranked No. 7 in the world.
Casper Ruud is a former world No. 2 and a three-time Grand Slam finalist, reaching the final at Roland Garros in 2022 and 2023, as well as the 2022 US Open. He holds 14 career ATP titles.
The first major run of his career on the ATP circuit occurred right on the clay courts of the Rio ATP 500, when he reached the semifinals during his debut appearance in 2017. Ruud also played at the Jockey Club Brasileiro in 2018, 2019, and 2020, and will now make his fifth appearance in search of the title in the Cidade Maravilhosa (Marvelous City).

This season, Ruud reached the final of the Rome Masters 1000, in addition to engaging in two great battles against Brazil's João Fonseca at Roland Garros and the Canada Masters 1000 in Montreal.
The Norwegian boasts one of the most consistent careers on the circuit, with six consecutive years inside the world's top 30 and over 150 weeks spent in the top 10.
This will be the largest edition of the Rio ATP 500 and promises to be historic, following the announcement of the expanded infrastructure at the Jockey Club Brasileiro. The new space increases court capacity as well as covered, entertainment, and food areas—offering greater comfort and a more complete experience for fans. With this, the Rio Open enters a new phase aligned with the growth of the sport and high public demand.
