This Monday, the Rio Open confirmed another top-30 player in the line-up for its historic 2027 edition. Italy's Lorenzo Musetti, 2024 Olympic bronze medalist and former world No. 5, returns to South America's largest tennis tournament and joins the previously confirmed João Fonseca, Flavio Cobolli, and Casper Ruud. The 2027 Rio Open takes place from February 13 to 21 at the Jockey Club Brasileiro. General ticket sales begin this Tuesday, October 13, at eventim.com.br/rioopen.
"I am confirming my participation in the 2027 Rio Open. Unfortunately, I was injured in recent years and couldn't play. But I was always able to really enjoy the city and feel the love of the fans. Being in Rio is special to me, and this time it will be even more interesting with the new stadium," said the Italian.
Former world No. 5—a career-high ranking achieved at the start of this season—Musetti has become one of the premier names on clay courts. In 2025, the 24-year-old Italian reached his first Masters 1000 final in Monte-Carlo, alongside semifinal appearances at the Madrid and Rome Masters, and capped off the clay-court season with a breakthrough semifinal at Roland Garros, establishing himself among the surface's best. Currently ranked No. 25, he is another major addition to the star-studded 2027 Rio Open player roster.
Back in Rio and a huge fan of Brazil, this will mark Musetti's second appearance on the courts of the Jockey Club Brasileiro following his 2023 debut. He was also present for the 2025 and 2026 editions but had to withdraw due to injury prior to the tournament. Winner of two titles (the Hamburg ATP 500 and Naples ATP 250), Lorenzo is also a two-time Davis Cup champion with Italy, having contributed to their 2023 and 2024 trophy runs.
"We are very happy to have Musetti with us for 2027, which will be a very special year. We had the misfortune of him getting injured over the past two years, but he has always shown a strong desire to play in front of the Brazilian crowd. He shares a special connection with Brazil, is one of the world's finest clay-court players, and greatly strengthens a line-up that already features Cobolli, Ruud, and João," said Tournament Director Luiz Carvalho.
Lorenzo Musetti joins the previously announced João Fonseca, Flavio Cobolli, and Casper Ruud—all top-30 players—at a 2027 Rio Open that promises to be historic. The Carioca ATP 500 recently announced an expansion of its venue infrastructure at the Jockey Club Brasileiro. The upgrade expands match court seating capacities as well as indoor, entertainment, and dining areas, providing added comfort and a richer overall experience for more fans. The Rio Open enters a new era that keeps pace with the sport's growing popularity and high spectator demand.
