João Fonseca and Matteo Berrettini, two of the biggest attractions of the Rio Open, presented by Claro, return to the court this Thursday to compete in the second round of the main singles draw.
The Brazilian will face Peruvian Ignacio Buse on the Guga Kuerten Court in search of a place in the quarterfinals of the ATP 500. A victory would equal Fonseca's best result in the biggest tennis tournament in South America.
The last match of the night on the central court will be between Italian Matteo Berrettini and Serbian Dusan Lajovic, the only player to have competed in all 12 editions of the Rio Open.
Berrettini will try to reach the quarterfinals once again. In his first participation in the Rio Open, in 2022, he was eliminated by Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the current world number 1.
The winner between Berrettini and Lajovic will face the winner between Fonseca and Buse in the quarterfinals.
The opening match of the program on the central court features Argentinian Tomas Martin Etcheverry against Lithuanian Vilius Gaubas.
