Czech Vit Kopriva (World Nº 87) and Argentinian Tomas Martin Etcheverry (World Nº 51) will face each other in one of the semifinals of the Rio Open, presented by Claro. The match is scheduled for this Saturday, on the Guga Kuerten Court, not before 5 PM (local time).
Kopriva opened the quarterfinals of the tournament defeating Argentinian Juan Manuel Cerundulo (6/4, 6/4) and reached his second ATP Tour semifinal of his career.
“I’m very happy. I tried to stay focused throughout the match, I felt a little tired in the second set, but I managed to win. I never thought I would reach the semifinal of my first ATP 500,” admitted Kopriva.
Etcheverry, the only seeded player still in the tournament, defeated Portuguese Jaime Faria (7/6(4), 6/4). He achieved his 100th victory on the ATP Tour.
“I played very well, especially in the tie-break, I served very well in the second set and returned his serve well, which is very good. I was looking for this 100th victory. Now let's go for 200 victories. I want to win many more,” said Etcheverry.
