Peruvian Ignacio Buse and Chilean Alejandro Tabilo will fight for a spot in the final of the Rio Open, presented by Claro, this Saturday evening, on the Guga Kuerten Court.
Buse continues to surprise in the tournament. After eliminating João Fonseca, he beat Italian Matteo Berrettini this Friday (6/3, 2/6, 6/3) and became the first Peruvian to reach the semifinals of an ATP 500.
“It was a rare and long match because of the number of times we stopped due to the rain, but I stayed as focused as possible, played very well and I am very happy. Now, it's time to rest and recover for the semifinal,” said Buse.
In the South American quarter-final clash, Chilean Alejandro Tabilo defeated Argentinian Thiago Agustin Tirante (7-6(2), 6-7(6), 6-3) in the longest match of the Rio Open so far, lasting 2 hours and 52 minutes. He reached his ninth ATP Tour semi-final with the support of the Brazilian crowd, who sang loud until 2 AM.
“This energy from the crowd helped me a lot, because I’m a little tired, but proud of the victory and grateful to my team. Buse is a good player and it will be a difficult and interesting match”, said Tabilo.
