One of tennis' greatest legends will be in Rio de Janeiro for South America’s premier tennis event, the Rio Open, presented by Claro. Andre Agassi, former world No. 1 for 101 weeks and an eight-time Grand Slam champion, will present the Antonio Bernardo Trophy to the tournament champion on Sunday, February 22.
A long-standing tradition at the Rio Open, each edition welcomes major figures from Brazilian and international tennis to honor the tournament champion. Players such as Gustavo Kuerten, Fernando Meligeni, David Ferrer and Juan Martin del Potro have previously taken part in the ceremony on the Guga Kuerten Court.
In 2026, the honor of presenting the trophy will go to one of the most recognizable and iconic names in tennis history. Owner of an aggressive playing style combined with a charismatic personality and the vibrant outfits that defined an era in sports fashion, Andre Agassi remains synonymous with tennis worldwide.
The American is one of the few players in history to achieve the Career Golden Slam, awarded to those who have won all four Grand Slam tournaments as well as an Olympic gold medal. Besides Agassi, only Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal have accomplished the feat.
In his career, Agassi claimed 60 titles, including eight Grand Slams, one ATP Finals, three Davis Cup titles and the gold medal at the Atlanta Olympic Games, in 1996.
Agassi was also one of Gustavo Kuerten’s great rivals. It was against Agassi that Guga won the Masters Cup in Lisbon 25 years ago, securing the victory that took him to world No. 1.
The Rio Open takes place at Jockey Club Brasileiro from February 14 to 22.
