The ATP released the list of doubles teams set to compete at the Rio Open presented by Claro this Monday. The line-up features names such as Rafael Matos, who will be chasing a third title at the Rio Open ATP 500, the duo of Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos, the most successful Grand Slam doubles team of 2025, and John Peers, Olympic gold medalist at the Paris Games. The Rio Open will be held from February 14 to 22 at the Jockey Club Brasileiro, in Rio de Janeiro.
A 100% Brazilian pair has secured direct entry into the tournament through the rankings. Rafael Matos, champion of the 2025 Rio Open alongside Marcelo Melo and winner in 2024 with Nicolas Barrientos, will compete this year with fellow Brazilian Orlando Luz. The partnership was formed recently and is already coming off a strong run at the Australian Open, where they reached the quarterfinals.
Among the international stars, the spotlight falls on Marcel Granollers, Horacio Zeballos and John Peers. Currently ranked world No. 4 and No. 5, respectively, Granollers and Zeballos captured two Grand Slam titles in 2025, claiming the trophies at Roland Garros and the US Open. The duo also enjoyed a deep run at the Australian Open, falling only in the semifinals. One of the most dangerous teams on tour, Granollers and Zeballos won one of the first titles of their partnership at the Rio Open in 2020, and now return in search of their first title of the season.
John Peers, gold medalist at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, is a former world No. 2 and owner of 30 career titles, including the 2017 Australian Open and three mixed doubles Grand Slam titles, the most recent came earlier this year, also in Australia. Peers will make his Rio Open debut alongside American Evan King, currently world No. 16 and a three-time ATP champion.
The 2023 Rio Open champions, Máximo González and Andrés Molteni, also return to the tournament in pursuit of a second title, while the field further includes teams such as France’s Sadio Doumbia and Fabien Reboul, winners of five ATP titles, as well as singles players who will also team up in the doubles competition, including Cerúndolo/Comesaña and Darderi/Etcheverry.
In total, there are six Grand Slam champions across the two doubles draws: Marcel Granollers, Horacio Zeballos, John Peers, Rafael Matos and Sem Verbeek in the main draw, and Jean-Julien Rojer in the qualifying, highlighting the strength of both competitions.
Three additional teams will join the 13 pairs already announced. Two spots are reserved for tournament wildcards, while one team will advance from the qualifying draw, which consists of three pairs entered via ranking and one wildcard team.
