The ATP released on Monday the list of players set to compete in the qualifying draw of the 12th edition of the Rio Open presented by Claro. The qualifying matches will take place on February 14 and 15 at the Jockey Club Brasileiro featuring a balanced mix of young prospects and experienced players from the ATP Tour.
Among the highlights are Elmer Moller, the Danish youngster considered one of the most promising players of his generation, and Chun-Hsin Tseng, a former junior world No. 1 and two-time junior Grand Slam champion. Experience will also be well represented by Nicolas Jarry, a former world No. 16 from Chile, and Dusan Lajovic of Serbia, a former top-30 player and the only athlete to have competed in every edition of the Rio Open singles main draw.
The singles qualifying draw will feature 16 players, all competing for the final four spots in the Rio Open main draw. Thirteen players gain direct entry based on their ATP ranking, while the remaining three spots will be filled by wild cards, which will be announced by the tournament organizers in the coming days.
Players who win two matches in the qualifying rounds will advance to the main draw of the Rio Open, scheduled to be played from February 16 to 22, also at the Jockey Club Brasileiro. The main draw will feature world No. 5 Lorenzo Musetti, fan favorite and showman Gael Monfils, who has included the Rio ATP 500 in his farewell tour, Italy’s Matteo Berrettini, one of the Brazilian crowd’s favorites, and local rising star João Fonseca.
