The Rio Open presented by Claro announced its first wildcard for the qualifying draw this Wednesday. Young Brazilian Luis Guto Miguel, currently world No. 3 in the ITF Junior Rankings, has received the invitation to compete in the qualifying stage and will play his first ATP-level tournament at the Rio Open. Free ticket redemption for the qualifying will take place on February 10, at 11 a.m., at eventim.com.br/rioopenqualifying.

Born in Goiânia, Guto is enjoying an excellent run of form. Following his recent singles and doubles titles at the J300 Traralgon in Australia, the 16-year-old has climbed to third place in the junior rankings, the highest of his career. Guto has now collected six ITF singles titles and three doubles titles, and his performances have already drawn attention on the tour, including invitations to hit with Novak Djokovic in Melbourne, during the Australian Open.

“I’m very happy with the invitation to play the Rio Open qualifying and I’d like to thank everyone involved for this great opportunity to compete in my first ATP 500. It will be an incredible experience for me. I’m coming off good results and a very positive junior swing in Australia, which makes me even more confident. Now the goal is to arrive well prepared in Rio, give my best on court, and fight for a spot in the main draw.”

In 2025, Guto captured three titles, highlighted by the J500 Mérida in Mexico — a tournament level just below the junior Grand Slams. Last year also marked his first appearances at all four junior Grand Slams, with his standout result coming at the US Open, where he reached the semifinals. This year, Guto competed as the second seed at the Australian Open junior event, advancing to the quarterfinals.

“Brazil continues to rise in the development of new talents, and Guto Miguel is part of this group of young players with impressive results on the ITF Juniors circuit. Just like when we gave João Fonseca his first opportunity, we hope this experience of playing and living an ATP 500 tournament will be very valuable for him and serve as a stepping stone in his development and transition to the professional circuit,” said Tournament Director Luiz Carvalho.

Two more wildcards will join Guto in the Rio Open qualifying draw. The list of players set to compete in the qualifiers features experienced names such as Chile’s Nicolas Jarry and Serbia’s Dusan Lajovic, as well as rising talents from the new generation, including Elmer Moller, Chun-Hsin Tseng, Dino Prizmic and Adolfo Daniel Vallejo.

Guto Miguel is the third Brazilian confirmed in the Rio Open, alongside João Fonseca and João Lucas Reis, who will compete in the main draw.
