Reigning champion of the Rio Open presented by Claro, Cameron Norrie is back in action this Wednesday at the last match of the day at Quadra Guga Kuerten for his second round clash against Chilean Tomas Barrios Vera. It’s going to be their first encounter.
"I watched his match a little bit on Monday and it looked like he's using the drop shot very well on both sides and he hits the ball reasonably flat. But yeah, I think on this surface, these conditions, is going to be tricky, you know. I'm going to have to work the point a lot and use my legs and definitely win the point three or four times and probably go through even more shirts. So like I said, ready for a battle against him and then regardless of who play here, it's going to be tough”, said the British.
The action at Quadra Guga Kuerten will start with the clash of two rising stars: #NextGenATP Arthur Fils and Brazilian João Fonseca.
Fonseca, last year’s US Open boys’ champion aims to win his first ATP Tour match a year after he made his debut in Rio. If he manages to do so, Fonseca will become the first player born in 2006 or later to win a match at an ATP Tour event.
As for Fils, who is making his tournament debut, he became the youngest player to win an ATP Tour title last year, doing so in front of home crowd in Lyon.
After their match, Brazilian top player Thiago Seyboth Wild will take on Spaniard Jaume Munar in the hopes of winning his third match in Rio.
