Rio Open announces Alcaraz in the 10th edition

The Rio Open 2022 champion and current number 2 in the world, Carlos Alcaraz is the first tennis player confirmed for the 10th edition of the Rio Open. The young sensation on the circuit and an important part of our history is already guaranteed in the biggest tournament in South America, which will take place between the 17th and 25th of February at the Jockey Club Brasileiro, in Rio de Janeiro.

“I am very happy to play the Rio Open in 2024. The tournament is special for me. It was where I won my first ATP match and where I won my first ATP 500. I have a special relationship with the fans, I'm excited to be in Rio again,” said Alcaraz.

In 2024, the spaniard will make your fourth appearance in the Rio Open. In 2020, Alcaraz made his debut when he was ranked 406th and was seen as one of tennis' future promises, receiving an invitation to the tournament. It was here where the tennis player competed in his first ATP main draw and also won his first victory in ATP tournaments, defeating his compatriot Albert Ramos-Vinolas, at the time ranked 41st in the world, starting his journey in ATP tournaments.

The year of 2022 was a key turning point for Alcaraz. After winning the Rio Open title, where he defeated names like Matteo Berrettini, Fabio Fognini and Diego Schwartzman along the way, the Spaniard took flight and was champion of his first Grand Slam at the US Open, in addition to also became the number 1 in the world. Other marks were also broken at the same year, being the youngest tennis player since 2005 to enter the top 10 of the ATP Ranking, as well as being the youngest to win an ATP 500, a mark beaten in Rio de Janeiro. In Madrid, the current Rio Open champion broke the record for the youngest tennis player to defeat Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, in addition to being the first to surpass both of them in the same clay tournament.
In 2023, Alcaraz's journey continued to be successful, with the Spaniard winning six tournaments on three different surfaces. At just 20 years old, Alcaraz reached another Grand Slam final and defeated Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon to win another major in his career.

The Rio Open has always attracted the best clay tennis players and revealed some of the promising names on the ATP Tour, such as Casper Ruud, Felix Auger Aliassime, Nicolas Jarry, among others.

Alcaraz is the first confirmed tennis player of the tenth edition of the Rio Open, which will begin pre-sales and general ticket sales this October. Claro and Santander Select and Private customers will have an exclusive pre-sale between the 17th and 23rd of October, while the general sale will begin on the 24th.
