The 11th edition of the Rio Open presented by Claro kicks off this Monday with three Brazilians in action at the clay courts of Jockey Club Brasileiro.
First one to play is Felipe Meligeni Alves, who’s making his fourth appearance at the Main Draw in Rio. He takes on Alexander Shevchenko (KAZ) on Quadra Guga Kuerten at 4:30, local time.
Next up is Thiago Monteiro, who faces Argentinian Facundo Diaz Acosta at the first match of the night session at Quadra Guga Kuerten, not before 7pm. It will be Monteiro’s ninth appearance at the ATP 500 event.
“I'm ready for the challenge and I hope to use the crowd’s energy, specially playing against an Argentinian. Hopefully this will be another unforgettable week as always at the Rio Open”, said Monteiro.
Following that match, Thiago Seyboth Wild faces Spaniard Jaume Munar at the last clash at the main court at Jockey Club Brasileiro. It’s a rematch from last year’s round of 16. In 2024 Wild won in three sets: 6/2, 4/6 and 6/3.
“Munar is in very good form, he played the semis in Dallas, had good wins recently and we played each other quite a few times before. We know each other’s game so I predict a very close match and a tough battle. As always I’ll do my best out there”, said Seyboth Wild.
