The two Chileans who starred in the main singles draw at the Rio Open this Monday experienced mixed feelings. Cristian Garín lost to Argentinian Thiago Agustin Tirante (7-5, 6-3), while Alejandro Tabilo defeated American Emilio Nava (6-3, 6-3).

"I'm frustrated. I tried, but it wasn't a good day, I didn't feel comfortable in the match, but I have to move on and find energy," said Garín, who lost his father, Sergio Garín, in January.

"It's been a difficult year due to personal and family issues, it's impossible for everything to be alright, but I'm trying to move on. Obviously, it's not easy," added the 2020 Rio Open champion, who received support from his compatriot.

"We were together in the Davis Cup, he tried to help the team, but only he can feel this moment and know how to move forward. Hopefully things will improve. He has our support," said Tabilo, who also analyzed his victory.

"It was a great match, I served well, I executed a good tactic, I'm feeling good and relaxed on the court. I'm happy not to face a Brazilian in the second match, because it's much more difficult with the support of the crowd," Tabilo concluded.
